Montgomery Place, Notting Hill

Dark and stormy

The Vibe

The epitome of Notting Hill chic, the place is dark, the drinks are strong, the crowd is dressed up and it’s fairly hard to leave once you’ve settled into the curved corner seats. Granted it has the price tag to match the location but it’s a place where you can  get lost in the person you’re with.  If really into your cocktails, the waiters will regale you with minutia about the sourcing of the ingredients , without the sense of superiority of a central London mixologist. The table service means you needn’t burst the romantic bubble with the annoyance of trips to the bar and pin code repetitions. If just one of you is expected to pick up the tab then perhaps put aside some money to burn, but as Bret Easton Ellis said, ‘the seeds of love have taken hold, and if we won’t burn together, I’ll burn alone.”, i.e. just suck it up.

The Order

The Queens Park Swizzle. Similar to a mojito but better, using Angostura 1919 rum.

The Game

Drink up, cosy up and stay for hours.

The Faults

Pricey, for sure, but no more so than any decent cocktail joint. Just make sure you book a table on weekends, as the standing room is minimal and it gets unbearably rammed.

Sex Factor

3 on a weekday (your building horniness is combated by the necessity of getting home to sleep off the booze before work). 5 on the weekend (there should be nothing stopping you).
