The Vibe

Over the top interiors, giant chandeliers, lashings of gold on the furnishings, exposed wood and animal carcases. Despite the slight ridiculousness of its ‘stage design’ setting, you can’t help but enjoy being surrounded by beautiful things and people. Great dim lighting to put yourself at ease and a sensual vibe that facilitates seduction.

The Order

Do not comment on the over-pricing of the drinks and order by the glass and not the bottle, trying different drinks and showing that you are quite capable of surrendering to the decadent spontaneity of the place (“sure I’ll move from the Little Red Riding Hood to the Cloudy Bay Te Koko now”).

The Game

Ask for one of the more private tables towards the back when you book. End the night with a glass of red wine in a bowl-like glass and skinny stem. You’re now sleepily tipsy instead of hyped up drunk, the boudoir character of the bar is coming into its own and there is suddenly nothing untoward about leaning towards him/her and whispering ‘kiss me’.

The Faults

You must book, you may find it poncy and it’s not about the food (small portions of sushi/pan Asian nibbles that fail to compete with the volume being drunk).

Sex Factor

4. Loungelover is a pretty showy joint, so it can’t hurt your cause.
