Pizza Buzz, Old Street
Sometimes, a date is strategised to perfection – time and date pre-arranged, venue booked / owners of walk-in-only establishments suitably charmed, smart shoes on. Sometimes, however, none of the above applies. In the heart of the City, Pizza Buzz is just a stone’s throw from the banks, the law courts, the design firms and the trend forecasters. Perfect for those who find planning ahead a bit of a challenge. A self-service experience and plenty of booths for all means you won’t ever be needing to have an awkward conversation with a waiter, wait for a table or walk the streets in hope of an alternative. The menu is bold enough to inspire a half-decent conversation when needed…and if all else fails, there is always the on-tap prosecco.
Erm….I hope you like pizza? There’s something for everyone, from gluten-free to no-tomato to no-dairy….and then add almost anything to your preference, with absolutely no qualms. Fancy some pineapple with your courgette flowers? Be my guest.
I am personally a big fan of the Honor (Pesto Sauce, Buffalo Mozzarella, Cherry Tomatoes, Garlic, Parmesan, Rocket), closely followed by the Veal Meatball (Crushed tomatoes, Mozzarella, Veal Meatballs, Caramelised Onions, Sage, Prosciutto) – and with all of the (generously sized and topped) pizzas under £10 a pop you’ll be able to afford a few carafes….or another pizza to take away for later.
To wash it down: beer, wine, prosecco (did I mention it’s on tap?). Let’s not pretend it’s a place for the beverage aficionado – instead, quite refreshingly, nobody needs to be worried about exposing a lack of sophistication here. For the virtuous, every Pizza Buzz Blend Tea sipped raises £1 for Cystic Fibrosis.
Scenario #1: Post-work date, play it cool, in and out before they realize you’ve legged it (such behaviour is not condoned).
Scenario #2: Post-work date, stay for seconds, get tipsy, make it your regular.
Scenario #3: Have a few drinks, opt for a take away for later and head back to yours / theirs.
Scenario #4: Have a few drinks, head back to yours / theirs. Come back in the morning for breakfast (Breakfast pizza served 9-11am).
I’m beginning to think I missed out on some real game here….
Though definitely relaxed and an easy option for post-work flirtation, for most this isn’t going to be an impressive first date. Utilise only if you’ve already made it to Date #2 or beyond – fresh and No Frills, there isn’t too much to distract from the dialogue (which hopefully at this stage is a good thing).
2. Depending on volumes of prosecco drunk…. (N.B. there is no correct answer here).
